The West Coast is famous for its breathtaking spring flower season, which reaches its peak from August to September each year. Imagine wandering through vibrant fields of wildflowers, soaking in the beauty of nature right on our doorstep.
Located approximately 145 kilometers from Cape Town, Velddrif is surrounded by popular West Coast towns such as Langebaan, Port Owen, and Paternoster. It’s the perfect base for exploring the unspoiled beauty of the Cape West Coast.

Take a game drive through our pristine wilderness, where you’ll have the chance to spot our famous Quaggas, as well as rare species like the Blonde Wildebeest, Blonde Gemsbok, Sable, Springbok, and Buffalo.

Accommodation
L’Ermitage Quagga Lodge consists of 5 modern Chalets overlooking the river. Each Chalet has two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a spacious lounge and dining area, a fully equipped kitchen as well as inside and outside BBQ facilities. Each Chalet offers complimentary WiFi, DSTV satellite channels and ceiling fans. The property is completely self-sustaining, with electricity sourced from an on-site solar powerplant, gas water heating systems and ground water filtration equipment. The use of electrical devices is restricted to that provided by the lodge.
Fauna and Flora
L’Ermitage Quagga Lodge is the proud home of approximately 40 Quaggas, which has been rebred out of extinction. The lodge also have a couple of other rare species roaming its plains. These includes the Blonde Wildebeest, Blonde Gemsbok (Oryx), Sable, Springbok and Buffalo. The Berg River estuary is also an important bird habitat, as it is home to around 30,000 birds. Solar Powered
Our chalets have been designed and built in such a way that we are 100% dependent on solar power to generate electricity throughout the year. To help us conserve this valuable resource, we encourage guests to use electricity sparingly, and not to bring with any devices that will put strain on the system.
Game Drives
Daily Game Drives are available for our guests at an additional fee, offering a rare opportunity to see these beautiful animals in their natural habitat.
